Class Divide Mobilises to Ensure New School Proposals Deliver Educational Equity for All

Carlie Goldsmith speaking at the council meeting on the 5th December 2024

We wanted to share our initial thoughts and actions on from the council’s new proposals for secondary schools and the launch of the 8-week consultation.

We welcome this consultation as an opportunity for us to check that the outcomes will meet our 3 main aims.  These are:

  • ensuring Brighton and Hove has a school system that is socially and economically integrated

  • providing families in East Brighton with the same choice in the secondary school admissions process as other families in other parts of the city

  • ensuring that all community schools are protected and remain viable

Over coming weeks, we will be:

  • reviewing the proposals to make sure that they meet our primary objectives as outlined above and providing clear, balanced analysis

  • organising community events and forums to discuss the proposals in detail

  • hosting forums for education professionals

  • working hard to ensure that all voices in the city are heard and feel able to contribute

This is a pivotal moment for the city and an opportunity to create a more inclusive school system that will benefit all the children of Brighton and Hove.

Please make sure you are signed up to our newsletter, and following us on X, Bluesky, Threads, and Instagram - we will be posting about how you can support this important campaign soon.
